This solenoid valve is operated when the ignition is switched on, You can hear it click when voltage is applied. When the ignition is switched off it stops fuel allowing to enter the carburettor. If yours is faulty it can lead to the engine not wanting to run, won't idle or also overfuelling which can end up inside the engine and contaminating the oil.
