This bush fits into the gearbox Bellhousing on all 6 Volt model VW Beetles, Splitscreen etc Its job is very important as it supports the end of the starter motor, If the bush is worn it will damage the inside of the starter motor as the armeture could short onto the windings. It's always worth trying a new bush first before replacing a starter motor. A new bush should always be fitted when replacing a starter motor. There is a special tool for removing the bush but you can just use a Tap from a tap and die set and pull it out with some grips.
