This bush is used when running a 12 volt flywheel and starter motor in a 6 volt gearbox. It fits into the gearbox Bellhousing and supports the end of the starter motor. If the bush is worn it will cause the starter motor armature to lean over and short inside the casing making it either turn over slowly or not at all. A new bush should always be fitted when replacing a starter motor. There is a special tool for removing the bush but you can just use a Tap from a tap and die set and pull it out with some grips. we also sell a 6 volt or 12 volt bush in the Wolfsburg Restos ebay shop.
